Kitty Boitnott:

Are you a teacher who's feeling stressed out and overwhelmed? Do you worry that you're feeling symptoms of burnout or are you sure you've already gotten there? Have you started to dream of doing some other kind of job or perhaps pursuing a whole different career, but you don't know what else you're even qualified to do? You don't know how to start a job search. You just feel stuck. If that sounds like you, I promise you're not alone. My name is Kitty Boitnott. I'm a career transition and job search coach and I specialize in helping burnt out teachers just like you deal not only with the stress and overwhelm of your day-to-day job, but to consider what other careers might be out there waiting for you. Join me for "Teachers in Transition." In some episodes I'll be speaking to stress management techniques and how you can manage your stress on a day to day basis. In other episodes I'll be talking about career transition. What tools do you need to be successful in a job search when you're moving from one career into a totally different track? These are questions that you need answers to and I can help you find those answers. My name is Kitty Boitnott. Welcome to "Teachers in Transition." Welcome back for Episode 28 of "Teachers in Transition," the Podcast and the YouTube channel. Today I want to talk about how we can connect our careers to our passion and our purpose. I've written about this and released a newsletter just today and I'll include the link in the show notes so that you can see more about what it is that I believe about connecting passion and purpose. The title of the article is actually "When You Have Passion and Purpose, You Can Forget about Failure." And I believe that. Too many people, however, have forgotten that they, they even have a passion or that they have a sense of purpose. They've moved so far away from both. They're just stuck in a job that they're going through the motions and they get a paycheck at the end of the month, but that's about all the satisfaction they get from that, that a paycheck should be under estimated or appreciated. It shouldn't be. But I do believe that there are ways and , and we're seeing examples of people all over the world who are connecting their passion and their purpose with what they do for a living and they're living happy-er more fulfilling job , uh , lives in the people who are stuck in the nine to five. It's important that you feel like your work is meaningful. Each one of us yearns to do something that will leave a lasting legacy. We don't want the fact that we were here on the planet to not count for something. We want to be remembered for something. And so having work that leaves a lasting impact is one way that you can make your contribution to the world. And I do believe that each one of us has a unique gift to offer. Unique in you're different from anybody else. Your aptitudes, your talents, gifts, abilities, experiences, and education are all unique to you. No one else can duplicate what you have. And yet, too many of us feel like we have to settle. In fact, when we were young, if we expressed an interest in doing something a little bit different, we were discouraged. We were told, "Oh, get real job." And you know, like I said, we shouldn't underestimate the value of a paycheck. We all need a roof over our heads and food on the table that we shouldn't have to sacrifice our personal happiness for that. Should we? I don't think so. I personally think life is just too short to stay stuck in a job that we no longer love. When it came time for me to make a change because I knew I didn't have it in me to do the job that would need to be done if I went back to my school district and took the assignment that I was offered, I would have not been happy myself and I don't think I would have been able to offer my students the best services that they deserved . I was too tired. I was, I was too exhausted mentally, physically, emotionally, to have the patience to deal with middle-schoolers and they need lots of patience. They need lots of love. They need. They need somebody who can be all in for them and I wasn't in a position to do that. I was lucky enough to be able to leave and then to have some time to decide what it was that I wanted to do next. And like a lot of the people who wind coming to me, I was stuck with not knowing exactly what it is that I wanted to do next. Part of the problem was that I wasn't fully aware of all the things that might be out there for a teacher to do and as I've shared, I was over-educated and under under qualified to do a lot of the things that I might've been interested in doing. But the main thing was at that particular juncture in my life, I did not care to engage in the nine-to-five grind. I did not want to have to get up in the middle of the night, four o'clock, 4:30, 5:00, to get somewhere. By 6:30 or 7. I was over it. I was tired of that routine. I did not want to have to drive somewhere every day. I wanted to be able to work from home. I wanted to have the flexibility of creating my own schedule. I wanted to be my own boss frankly, and there are a number of opportunities for doing that. But for me, what I ended up deciding to do was this coaching gig. And I've never been sorry and I've never looked back and I'm excited to be able to say that as of this morning I was notified by a TalentLMS that I've been named one of the top 20 female career coaches to follow in 2020 and I looked at the list this morning and I'm on there with some other people who made it to the top, top career coaches online in 2016 when I was named to that list by CareerToolkit. So the work that I've been doing is paying off. It's being recognized out of the blue by people like TalentLMS and CareerToolkit. And I am convinced if I can retool and we invent myself at the age of 60 which was almost seven years ago, I've got a birthday coming up this month. Anybody can do it. Anybody out there who is unhappy in their current job, whatever it may be. Teaching nursing, office, work, corporate, whatever it is that you're doing. If you don't love it, if you're just over it, maybe it's time for you to reinvent and retool yourself and you don't have to start your own business. Not everybody can do that. Although if that has , if that's of interest to you, I do have coming up a promotion for an Online Summit that was included in, that includes Roberta flack, a former teacher, turn singer and I w I've, I think maybe one probably shouldn't say one other individual that you will recognize his name if he winds up being listed on the summit. Oh , I'll hold that for one. I know for sure, but it's exciting that this individual is a former teacher that everybody knows through his word . Maybe included in this online summit. The, the purpose of the online summit is to talk about ways that former teachers have reinvented and we told themselves, and I was contacted by the person, Suzanne Klein, who is hosting the online summit, will be coming up later this month. I'll be promoting it, so pay attention and I'm also promoting my own webinar workshop coming up October 10th at 7:00 PM Eastern and again two times on Saturday, October the 12th at 11 Eastern or two Eastern and again on Wednesday the 16th of October at 1230 Eastern. I'll put the link to the registration page at the bottom of our show notes. And the purpose of the webinar workshop is to talk about how do you find your passion and purpose and live a happier life. What do you do to help yourself identify what your passion is? A lot of people are struggling with even knowing what that is. They've gotten so far field of it . So if that is something you're interested in helping yourself to identify your passion and your purpose and thinking of ways to connect them to your work for a happier overall life, please plan to join me for one of those live webinar workshops. I'd love to have you on board to hear what I have to say and to learn that I'm starting my 11th group coaching cohort on October 21st so if you're thinking, if you're a teacher thinking that you want this to be your last year to teach, this is the time for you to be signing out . If you've been unhappy with the start of this school year and you don't want to have to go through another school year, now's the time to be learning what you need to know to conduct a successful job search. And that's what that 11th group coaching cohort will be about. So there's a lot of exciting stuff coming up and I hope you'll plan to join me for the live webinar workshop and for the online summit. I'll be saying more about that in upcoming weeks. Join me in celebrating being named to one of the top 20 Female Career Coaches to Follow in 2020 by TalentLMS. I'm very excited about that. What it shows is that hard work, perseverance, discipline, all of that pays off. That's a recognition I would've never dreamed of having before. So. That's it for today.
