Show Notes Transcript

I am embarrassed that the last podcast I offered was on June 9, 2022, and here it is, the middle of September. I apologize to any of my "faithful listeners" who have been waiting for me to offer something new.

As I explain in this week's episode, the problem with my absence boils down to falling out of my routine.

On June 10, I lost my iPhone. About that same time, I got locked out of my Macbook Pro. I also dropped and broke my iPad at about that same time.

If you are a Mac user or you know one, you know that everything is interconnected and while I had loads of stuff on the "cloud" I couldn't get to it, and I couldn't get to my

Speaker 1:

Do you worry that you're feeling symptoms of burnout or are you sure you've already gotten there? Have you started to dream of doing some other kind of job or perhaps pursuing a whole different career, but you don't know what else you're even qualified to do. You don't know how to start a job search. You just feel stuck. If that sounds like you, I promise you're not alone. My name is kitty Boyk. I'm a career transition and job search coach. And I specialize in helping burnout teachers just like you deal, not only with the stress and overwhelm of your day to day job, but to consider what other careers might be out there waiting for you. Join me for teachers in transition. In some episodes, I'll be speaking to stress management techniques and how you can manage your stress on a day to day basis. In other episodes, I'll be talking about career transition. What tools do you need to be successful in a job search when you're moving from one career into a totally different track. These are questions that you need answers to and I can help you find those answers. My name is kitty. Boyk welcome to teachers in transition. Welcome back to another episode of teachers in transition the podcast in the YouTube channel. My name is kitty boy Knight, and I'll be honest. I'm almost embarrassed to be coming out of hiding. And the topic for today, keeping to your routine is close to my own heart because part of the reason I've been missing an action the last several weeks is that I fell out of my routine and there's a reason, but it's more of an excuse than a rationale. What happened was that back in the middle of June, I lost my iPhone. And because I'm a Mac user, when you don't have access to your iPhone and you lose access to other parts of your technology, including passwords to my MacBook and the inability to sign on, even my iPad had given up on me, I had to buy a new iPad in the process. So in the meantime, because I didn't have access to my computer in part because I didn't have my phone so that I could get myself verified and back into my MacBook, I was unable to log onto the internet to record any zoom or podcast episodes, to meet with prospective clients, to meet with my current clients. None of that happened from the middle of June until sometime in July, because it took me that long to get everything worked out, it took, I had to had to buy a new iPad. I had to replace the iPhone. I had to get myself supported back into my computer. I spent enough time at the apple store in the, at the genius bar that I'm sure those poor people started going, oh wow, here she comes again. And the bottom line is that I fell out of the routine of first. I couldn't log in and do the podcast. So I didn't have the capability. And then I fell out of the routine of recording the podcast and I just didn't do it for several weeks. I just, the routine went by the wayside and it see, it never seemed like a good time to get online, to do an episode. And so it dawned on me this week that maybe the object lesson is the importance of sticking to a routine. If you want to be successful and keep and keep things going that may go for your job search as much as anything. I know I've talked to a number of people over time who started out strong in their job search. And then things got in the way life tends to get in the way sometimes losing your phone or not having access to your computer or just not having the mojo, not having the get up and go and the want to, to do what you need to know. And you know, you need to do it. You just don't want to do it. And so suddenly after a few weeks, you don't have a routine anymore and you're not looking anymore. And if you're not looking, you're not being successful when you're not being successful, it tends to take its toll on your enthusiasm and your commitment. And the next thing you know is you've given up. So here I am, I don't even know at this point, I'll have to go back and look to see how many weeks I have been missing in action. For those of you who may have depended on hearing me on Thursday mornings, my apologies. I sincerely apologize. I promise in the wasn't due to not wanting to get the podcast. I was desperate to get back online and then suddenly it was just not on my list of things to get done. And so I didn't get it done. And I learned a lesson and I hope you'll learn from my four example. So here we are back together. It is September 1st, many people school has already started. So the question of whether you're going back to school has already been decided you're either back or you aren't, you either quit before the school year started and didn't have anything lined up or perhaps you were working in a brand new job. If so, congratulations. I hope that that's the case and that if that's what you wanted and that that's working out for you, but I know for some people they've, they've quit their job. They quit as early as last year, thinking that they just were not gonna go back and maybe they had an episode like I had falling out of their routine and not finding what you thought you were gonna find and not being able to, to proceed with your life the way you wanted it to, if that's the case. And if I can be of any help, please sign up for a discovery session@teachersintransition.com slash calendar.
